[englisch/amerikanisch, fɪl'aʊt], im Gegensatz zum Fill-in kennzeichnet Fill-out eine gleichmäßige, den Beat stützende, aber dennoch markante Schlagzeugfigur, z. B. das gleichförmige »Wischen« mit dem Besen oder das andauernde »Zischen« mit dem Becken. Ein wichtiger Vertreter dieser Spielweise, die vor allem im Cool Jazz Bedeutung erlangte, war Denzil Best (1917-1965).
